Here are the results of our recent vote to amend our Retired Bylaws:
Yes –I Approve 95%
No—I Reject 4%
As a result, our Policy now reads as follows:
ARTICLE IV — MEMBERSHIP
Section B. Eligibility
- Any person who is currently retired and receiving benefits from the Alaska Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS)
- Any education support professional (ESP) currently retired and receiving benefits from the Alaska Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).
- Any currently retired Tier III Alaska Teachers’ Retirement System member or any currently retired Tier IV Alaska Public Employees’ Retirement System member who has:
- at least 20 years of employment in one or more Alaska public school districts; or

The Bylaw changes update and clarify our eligibility requirements and will have no effect on current active and pre-retired members.
Thank you to all the members who took the time to vote and to all our Retired Board of Directors and Policy Assembly members who worked through many drafts of this language.
