Our AlaskaCare plan will be administered by Aetna effective January 1, 2014.

You should be receiving the AlaskaCare newsletter in a few days outlining the changes the State is making to our medical plans.  There are many changes, including additional treatments that will require pre-certification.   We encourage you to read this newsletter carefully and follow through with contacting your providers with this new information.  The information is also online at http://doa.alaska.gov/drb/alaskaCare2014/transitionGuide.html

  1. There should be a lot of concern about the changes in this new plan. Be sure you research the changes before you do anything medical.

I just went the the OB I’ve been seeing for 30, had the same procedures that I have every year or two during that time. The office visit is NO LONGER COVERED.

And then there’s the little problem of NOT covering children up to age 26. After telling me my daughter was covered for vision, she made an appointment and got glasses. Since they covered for vision, she made her annual OB appointment. Then I get all the EOB’s that says she ISN’T covered.

I’m very disappointed with the new plan. This created a huge financial mess for me, ending up with a couple thousand dollars of unexpected expenses.

I think you need to be a little clearer about how far reaching the changes are and how some pretty standard things are no longer covered. It’s not just some pre-certification changes.
